More Australians are using the 5% Deposit Scheme to buy sooner.
Since its launch in 2020, more than 300,000 Australians have used the scheme, according to Housing Australia.
Half have been under 30, and about one in five have been key workers like teachers, nurses and emergency services staff.
What changed recently
In October 2025, access expanded:
- income caps were removed.
- property price caps increased.
- participation limits were lifted.
That’s made the scheme available to a broader group of buyers.
How it works
Eligible buyers can purchase with a 5% deposit without paying lenders mortgage insurance (LMI).
The federal government guarantees part of the loan, reducing the upfront cost.
