Young Property Buyers Haven’t Given Up

Despite affordability challenges, home ownership remains firmly on the agenda for most younger Australians.

A new survey from Agile Market Intelligence found 79% of Australians aged 18–34 plan to buy a home at some point.

And for a significant number, that goal isn’t far off: 19% intend to purchase within the next 12 months.

A plan beats a wish

Wanting to buy and being ready to buy are two different things.

For prospective first home buyers, getting prepared early can mean understanding:

  • How much you may be able to borrow.
  • What deposit you’ll realistically need.
  • Which upfront purchasing costs to budget for.
  • Whether you may qualify for first home buyer schemes or concessions.

Even if buying is still months away, knowing these numbers can turn a broad goal into a practical savings target.

It can also help avoid looking at properties that are outside your budget – or overlooking homes you could comfortably afford.

If buying your first home is on your radar, reach out to see what you could afford and what you’ll need to get there.
